Bankura

General Information

From the post independence era, our country has strived to acquire progress and prosperity. While much was done to ameliorate the situation and contrive as a glorious nation, our government embarked on ‘some time bound policies’. This time bound policies were formulated into ‘Five Years Plans’. And these ‘Five Years Plans’ enabled the government to chalk out an intensive programme for the development and expansion of libraries. This congenial situation was a boon for our Bankura District also. Bankura marched steadily in to the world of revelation, headed by the then District collector J. C. Sengupta, I.A.S. It was 13 December of 1955. Thirty Three Book Loving people and several Government Officials assembled and formed "Bankura District Library Association". The nascent association soon got the needed official permission from the Director Public Instruction of Govt. of West Bengal vide G. O. No. 1433/Edn. Dated 9th February, 1956. Bankura District Library has celebrated its ‘Golden Year’ with the financial assistance of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation in the year 2007.
